Archiestown Self Catering Holiday Accommodation in Moray, North East Scotland.
Cottage Facilities Ivy Cottage is Two Star rated by the Scottish Tourist Board and comprises of: Kitchen with electric cooker and microwave oven, fridge/freezer, automatic washing machine, iron and ironing board. Lounge/Dining room has a colour television. Bathroom with shower. The double bedroom is on the ground floor. Upstairs are the 2 single bedrooms with skylight windows. All beds have duvets. Hot water bottles and electric blankets are provided. Visitors may take their own bed linen, towels, tea towels and tablecloth or these can be supplied at an additional cost. Heating on the ground floor is by storage heaters using off peak electricity. In the kitchen and diner there are convector boosters. Oil filled radiators are in upstairs rooms. Hot water is by immersion heater. Electricity is charged for each unit used. There is a pleasant self-contained garden and adjoining there is a quiet lane and footpath off the High Street. There is ample open air parking in the garden.
About the Area Archiestown is a wee bit off the beaten track yet is part of the world renowned "Whisky Trail" which is supported by the many famous distilleries in the Speyside area of Morayshire. The village has a small licensed Hotel and a Post Office which has a selection of groceries. These are within easy walking distance. Nearby Rothes and Aberlour have good butchers and bakers. Principle shops are at Elgin. Archiestown is a good touring base. To the north the Moray Firth coast is easily reached by a choice of many routes. To the South and West are the Grampian and Cairngorm Mountains, with many of Speyside's other attractions within 35 miles. For example to the south west there is the RSPB visitor centre at Loch Garten where Osprey chicks can be seen in their nests via cctv. Boat of Garten is served by the Strathspey Steam Railway from Aviemore. The long distance footpath the "Speyside Way" has developed in places from former railway lines, this was established in 1980. This now links Moray Firth to upland Moray and upper Speyside.
The climate, although not sizzling, is warm in Summer and Autumn. Rainfall is generally a great deal less than in many Central and Western areas of Scotland. Additional daylight in June can be a bonus for an early summer holiday. How
to get there By road: The A9 to Aviemore provides the most direct route from the South then travelling via Grantown-on-Spey. Alternatively a spectacular journey North from Perth via A96 over the Grampian Mountains to the A939 and Tomintoul. This route is often not recommended in Winter! By Air: The nearest Airport is Inverness Dalcross with direct flights to London Luton and Gatwick. A limited number of buses serve Archiestown from Elgin which is on the Aberdeen to Inverness railway line. Ideally a car is needed for a holiday in this area. For convenience and availability Inverness and Aberdeen provide the best value for car hire. By Rail: FirstScotrail and National Express East Coast trains serve Inverness and Aberdeen.
